PCOD commonly known as “Polycystic ovarian syndrome” is a hormonal imbalance especially seen in young girls and ladies in reproductive age. PCOS usually affects a woman’s menstruation cycle, fertility, hormonal balance, insulin production and usage, heart, blood vessels and physical appearance. About 5 -10 percent of women of childbearing age have PCOS. The first sign of PCOD is often unexplained weight gain and irregular menstrual periods.
Particular Cause of PCOS is yet not known. It may be hereditary – often transmitted from mother. Obesity seems to be a cause – fat tissues may produce estrogens which disrupts ovulation. PCOS may be due to high levels of insulin in the blood.
Ayurveda classifies PCOS as a kapha disorder which also involves the vitiation of other two doshas vata and pitta, resulting in different symptoms like facial hair growth, acne, change of voice ,fat deposition, central obesity etc.
The initial step is weight reduction through food control and modification of lifestyle.
For PCOS, we advise diets, yogasanas, kitchen herbs and lifestyle change considering their insulin levels, stress levels and other related symptoms. Pamper your taste buds with healthy Diets for PCOS, as shared below -
